When the washout happened, we knew that rebuilding the trail would be a multi-year project because of the realities of government funding cycles and construction season up north plus Great Lakes water levels were at all time highs and needed to go down first. This 26-mile pedestrian trail travels from the nearby town of Charlevoix through Petoskey and up to Harbor Springs. The estimated cost of the project was between $6-7 million and would cross U.S. 31, but would also bring foot traffic to businesses along U.S. 31.
